Lawrence Kung

Lawrence Kung (aka Kung Chin Yuan) is a Brisbane-based businessman and close friend of former Taiwanese president Chen Shui-bian.

In 2005 he flew, then Shadow Foreign Minister Kevin Rudd to London.

Mr Kung has been linked to a secret fund used to support Taiwan's efforts to secure diplomatic recognition in the South Pacific and gain influence in Australia. He has also been indicted on corruption and money laundering charges, relating partly to his alleged misuse of the secret fund. His wife and former aides are also being prosecuted for corruption.

Between 1998 and 2006 Mr Kung donated $120,000 to the Australian Labor Party (QLD) and donated a further $100,000 to the national branch in 2007-08 using the name Lawrence Kung.
